A note on production and pricing…
and a promise
These were made at Amphora Ceramic Studio and fired to Cone 5 using commercial glazes (mostly Amaco and Mayco). The designs (snakes, mushrooms, etc.) are commercially produced underglaze transfers and are not my own designs. My hope is to make my own underglaze transfers someday using my photography as a basis for the design. If you are adept at scientific illustration and/or graphic design and are interested in collaborating on this project, please reach out.
I know these mugs are expensive. They take quite a lot of time and I choose not to cut corners on them. Each one takes about 1.5 hours to make; add in clay and glaze and tools and firing fees… All this to say, that there is no way I could afford to be a full time artist.
Now for the promise:
I intend for these mugs to be used daily. Daily use comes with risk. At some point a mug may be broken. If that happens, please let me know and I will make you a new mug for half price. Your new mug will not be the same as the one that was lost (since each mug is unique), but hopefully you love your new mug too.
Thank you for your support and for your support of small artists everywhere!
